The Science

Magnesium
Magnesium serves as a cofactor in more than 300 enzyme systems and is required for fundamental processes such as energy production. As a natural N-methyl-D-Aspartic acid antagonist and an agonist of gamma-amino Butyric Acid, magnesium has a muscle relaxant effect and may facilitate sleep. Magnesium supplementation has been shown to result in significant improvements in the insomnia severity index, sleep time, sleep efficiency, serum cortisol and melatonin concentrations.1

L-Theanine
Within the brain L-Theanine significantly increases activity in the alpha frequency band indicating the induction of a relaxed state.2 Within the setting of a clinical trial, L-Theanine was found to decrease stress-related symptoms such as anxiety and sleep disturbances while improving cognitive function. When used at 200mg, L-Theanine was safe, well tolerated and reduced concomitant use of sleep medication.3

Curcumin
While physical activity has numerous health benefits, high intensity exercise causes oxidative stress, muscle soreness and muscle fatigue, compromising physical performance. Curcumin, an extract from turmeric, possesses antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which have been shown to alleviate muscle damage. Curcumin can inhibit the formation of cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase and can indirectly reduce the formation of free radicals.4
